In order to be a member of the CAIIA, please refer to the following excerpt from the CAIIA By-Laws:

Section 2. Qualifications of Membership. All persons, partnerships, associations, and corporations who were members of the predecessor unincorporated association known as California Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters on the day of incorporation of this association shall automatically become members of this association with the same class of membership possessed in the predecessor association.

A. Classification of Membership. There shall be four classes of membership in this Association.

(1) Regular

(2) Non-Resident

(3) Inactive Membership

(4) Honorary Membership

B.   Regular (Voting) Members. A regular (voting) member may be an individual, partnership, or corporation possessing an Insurance Adjuster license issued by the State of California and in the business of adjusting insurance claims for insurance companies and/or self-insureds, and who possess the following qualifications:

(1) Individual. An individual must be a citizen of the United States, or otherwise legally eligible to reside and do business in the United States, at least twenty-one years of age and of good moral character. They must also have at least five years experience in the adjustment of insurance claims and have maintained an office for the conduct of the insurance adjusting business in one locality in the State or California for at least two consecutive years within the five year period immediately preceding the date of application for membership. They must be posses an active Insurance Adjuster license issued by the California Department of Insurance.

(2) Partnerships. Partnerships must be composed of at least one partner who is a citizen of the United States, at least twenty-one years of age, and of good moral character. Such partner must have at least five years experience in the adjustment of insurance claims. Such partnerships, or one of its partners, must also have maintained an office for the conduct of its insurance adjusting business in one locality in the State of California for at least two consecutive years within the five year period immediately preceding the date of its application for membership. The partnership must possess an active Insurance Adjuster license issued by the California Department of Insurance.

(3) Corporation. A corporation of any form (e.g. C, S, or LLC) must have at least one executive officer who is a citizen of the United States, who is at least twenty-one years of age and of good moral character, and who has at least five years experience in the adjustment of insurance claims. The corporation, or at least one of its executive officers, must have maintained an office for the conduct of the Insurance Adjusting business in one locality in the State for at least two consecutive years within the five year period immediately preceding the date of its application for membership. The corporation must possess an active Insurance Adjuster license issued by the California Department of Insurance.

C. Provisional Membership. A Provisional Membership may be granted to an applicant individual, partnership, or corporation when the applicant can meet all of the requirements for membership except for having maintained an office for the conduct of Insurance Adjusting business in one locality in the State of California for at least two years if the applicant has maintained an office in one locality for at least one year. A Provisional Membership shall automatically be changed to a regular membership after one year in the Association providing the member remains eligible in all other respects.

D. Non-Resident Members. Non-Resident members may be an individual, partnership or corporation having no place of business within the State of California and who otherwise, except for residential requirements, possesses all of the qualifications for regular membership in the California Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters.

E. Inactive Membership. An inactive member may be an individual who has been a past regular, or non-resident member who is no longer in the insurance adjusting business, but who desires to remain associated with the Association. Application for inactive membership shall be made in writing to the Board of Directors. Inactive members shall have no vote in the affairs of the Association and may not use the Association name or logo in any business advertisement. Inactive membership must be renewed annually. Inactive membership dues shall be 50% of the regular membership dues. The Secretary shall maintain a list of inactive members in the office of the Association and shall include the inactive member’s name on the mailing list for the Association’s newsletter.

F. Honorary Membership. An honorary membership may be accorded by the Executive Committee to any retired or former member who is considered to be deserving of special honor and recognition and who meets the following basic eligibility requirements:

(1) Was a member in good standing in the Association for over twenty years, or is retired and no longer engaged in the insurance business.

(2) Rendered great service and contributed significantly to the furtherance of the Association during their term of membership.

Honorary members may attend meetings and participate in discussions, but not vote. No dues or assessments shall be required of honorary members.

Election to Honorary Membership is on a lifetime basis or until such time as the honorary member requests that his/her name be removed from the list.

Section 6. Dues and Fees. All regular, non-resident, and provisional members shall pay annual dues of $325.00 plus $125.00 for each branch office for which a listing is published in the CAIIA Directory and Website. Listing of California offices is mandatory. Listing of out of state offices is at members discretion. Resident adjusters located in California may be listed on the association web site at a cost of $50.00 each. The maximum annual dues are $3,000.00.
